Barcelona has been recognized by the Eurocities network as European city of Innovation 2010. The award, which was presented during the General Assembly of the Eurocities network held in Saragossa, gives recognition to the programme 'Do it in Barcelona' for attracting foreign talent. Other cities selected as finalists in this category of the Eurocities Awards 2010 are Dublin and Edinburgh.
Do it in Barcelonais a global and pioneering initiative aimed at attracting entrepreneuring, creative and innovative workers to Barcelona. Since 2009 it has been aiding the talented entrepreneurs to get settled in the city, be it creating or helping to expand their business, working in added value sectors, carrying out research excellence or completing their master's or postgraduate studies.
Eurocities is a network of great European cities, of more than 300,000 inhabitants, which was created in 1986 and which brings together the councils of more than 140 cities from 30 European countries. Every year recognition is given to the activities, programmes and initiatives organized by cities that improve the quality of life of its citizens in three areas: innovation, participation and collaboration.
