More than 50,000 participants expected at the Mobile World Congress 2011
Over 1,300 exhibitors and 50,000 participants, from 110 countries. These are the figures predicted for the Mobile World Congress (GSMA), which will see Barcelona become the mobile telephony world capital from 14th to 17th February.
Brands such as Google, Twitter, Samsung, LG, Nokia, HTC, Microsoft and Vodafone will be attending the Congress, alongside some of their leading representatives.
According to Fira Barcelona (the Barcelona Trade Fair), the forthcoming edition is expected to be the largest in the congress's history, with the economic impact on the city to exceed 200 million euros. Hotel reservations are already 15% up on last year's figures, a whole month before the event is due to take place.
Mobile phone applications take over from social networks as the keynote theme of the congress, with more spaces and programmes dedicated to app developers, such as the Brand App Challenge, an activity which aims to inspire the creation of brand applications, and the Brand App Audition, geared towards the development of innovative applications for artists.
